The EIC – European Innovation Council is Europe’s flagship innovation programme to identify, develop and scale up breakthrough technologies and game changing innovations. Within the different supporting schemes of the EIC, and under the Horizon Europe umbrella programme, SULPHURREAL has been financed under the EIC Pathfinder Challenge: HORIZON-EIC-2022-PATHFINDERCHALLENGES-01-02: Mid to long term and systems integrated energy storage, launched in 2022. The Call aims to develop a range of breakthrough solutions for thermal and electrical mid-long term and system integrated energy storage (MLDES), minimising or avoiding the use of critical raw materials and capturing processes and system integration opportunities and was focused on thermal, electrical, or combined thermal/electrical MLDES with duration from days (mid-term) to seasons (long-term) for stationary applications in the mid to large scale size range.
Together with SULPHURREAL, seven other projects were selected to address this challenge. Thus, the Portfolio gathers eight projects funded through this call, that address the following technological areas:
These projects will develop cooperation within the portfolio in order to achieve their objectives more efficiently and effectively, enhance research, prepare transition to innovation and stimulate business opportunities and strengthen the EIC Community. Such activities will include among others, participation to conferences, workshops or meetings, data sharing, or participation to any relevant EIC Business Acceleration Services events.
