Finale phase of the Sulphurreal project

On July 8 and 9, the Sulphurreal consortium gathered online to hold their 33-month project meeting. The project has now entered its final months, with all participants working tirelessly on their tasks. Everyone involved in the project came together online to receive an update on the latest developments and progress. Each work package leader presented their current work and results.

Current work includes:
  • Testing campaigns and evaluation
  • Flowsheet and process scale-up
  • Techno-economic assessment and technology roadmap
  • Health and safety process aspects and environmental impact
  • AI-Leveraged Digital Twin

The exchanges amongst the participants consisted of valuable discussions. All participants are proud of the progress made so far and are looking forward to the upcoming, final stages of the project with the aim to direct store concentrated solar energy in solid elemental sulphur. The approach is based on the idea to use concentrated solar energy to cyclically drive a series of chemical reactions that interconvert sulphuric acid and sulphur.
